Artist Statement
"Blue Boy" was one of the very first sketches I ever completed in this project. It depicted the very feelings I felt; lost, sad but overall, restless. "Blue Boy" is all straight edges and plump roundness; a perfect depiction of my graffiti portrait style.
As I drew "Blue Boy", I tried to highlight Black hair and beauty through this portrait. It's an ode to all things blue and allowing oneself to feel it. There is still beauty in that, even if it's painful or messy etc; there is beauty in grief, loss and pain. It is a reminder of all things good but also allows us to appreciate what was and reflect. This is who "Blue Boy" is, beautiful sadness.
