Artist Statement
“Tortol With Two Homes” depicts the land and sea through various patterns from the Pacific, from both my Island homes. This piece also illustrates the cycle of life and unbecoming of death; showing all my bloodlines in the process through the patterned stories.
“Tortol With Two Homes” is a tribute to returning home and emerging from it, a play on life and death, and of completing the cycle, rising from the ocean, giving birth and returning to the ocean, waiting to be rebirthed. Death was something that felt too familiar; so I had to draw visual representation of it and my understanding of life and death and the endlessness of it all.
